Our Crest
..........................
The most important symbol for our band is the cap bagde, which we designed ourselves. In the middel the Scottish Monument on the Frezenberg in Zonnebeke is depicted, accompanied by a thistle and a poppy. The three symbols are surrounded by a belt containing our motto 'cuimhnichibh', which means 'remember' in Gaelic.
The concept was concieved by the entire committee. The casting of the pewter badges was only possible thanks to the support of honourary members John Sutherland and Jim Sharp . New players recieve the badge after their first performance.

Dressed for all occasions

Our band performs in two uniforms. For commemorations and similar performances we wear the service dress of Scottish soldiers who fought in the Ypers Salient during WWI. For other performances we wear the traditional Scottish 'Day Dress'.
The picture below shows both uniforms.

Passchendaele Tartan
..........................
This tartan, designed and registrated by two Flemish people, was designed for the 90 years “Battle at Passchendaele” commemorations.
The choice of colour could not be more symbolic. Brown stands for the mud of the battlefield, red for the blood that was shed. Green refers to the sprouting grass after the war and hope, the thin red stripe stands for the poppys. A black stripe reflects the mourning of so many families. The combination of the colours black, red, yellow reflect the official colours of Zonnebeke (the community of which Passchendaele is now part), Flanders and Belgium.
Our Pipe & Drum band is thus far the only organisation who has permission to wear this tartan.
