More than ten years of experience

The band originates from Ghent and started her history under the name Fleming Pipe Band. The first signs of the Fleming Pipe Band can be found at the depature of the Flemish Caledonian Pipes & Drums from the VCS (Vlaams Caledonische Society). Some players remained with the VCS and decided to start the Flemish Pipes and Drums (april 1997).

The band had some pipe major changes, but kept on growing. More and more people from outside Ghent, most of them from West-Flanders and Antwerp, joined the band. The number of performances started to rise, and the band started to long for a standard uniform and kilt. In the spring of 2001 the band decided on a standard dress and chose the 'Angus Ghent' tartan for the new kilts.

In 2002 the VCS decided not to keep the pipe band under its wing, so the band continued on its own. The band started to enter competitions. Due to the connections with West-Flanders the band performed more and more at World War I commemorations. In 2003 the band started issuing its own magazine: the Fleming Tribune.

In the beginning of 2007 the Fleming chose a new commitee. The decision was made to relocate to Zonnebeke in West-Flanders, from where most players originated. This made the Fleming the first active pipe band in West-Flanders.

The beginning of 2007 also marked the start of the ‘Passchendaele 1917 Pipes & Drums’ project, in which the band performs at commemorations and similar events in the Scottish service dress anno 1917. This meant that for two years, the band played under two names. To avoid further confusion the band members decided to drop the name Fleming Pipe Band in may 2009.
